Five-star Auburn signee to undergo surgery; status for ’11 uncertain

When Auburn opens summer camp early month, they’ll apparently do so without the highest-rated player in their 2011 recruiting class at their disposal.

And, perhaps, for the entire 2011 season as well.

On his Twitter feed Saturday, five-star linebacker Kris Frost announced that he will undergo surgery this week to repair an unspecified injury to his shoulder. The Birmingham News notes that the injury occurred during a summer workout at some point recently, while Rivals.com‘s Auburn website is reporting that the injury is a dislocated right shoulder.

Based on his Twitter timeline, it appears Frost may have injured the shoulder on July 20, then was in Birmingham two days later to have the injury evaluated. The school has yet to comment on Frost’s injury or his status for the upcoming season, although the News reports that he’s likely ticketed for a redshirt year after it was initially thought he would see meaningful playing as a true freshman. The AU website is also reporting FRost will miss the entire season.

Interestingly, the tweets regarding the surgery and the visit to Birmingham have been deleted since reports surfaced earlier today.

An email sent to Auburn seeking confirmation -- or denial -- has yet to be be answered.

As a five-star member of the Tigers’ 2011 recruiting class, the Matthews, North Carolina, product was the No. 2 outside LB in the country according to Rivals.com and was the top player overall in his home state according to the recruiting website. Frost was the only five-star signee in AU’s latest recruiting class, although the school did land 13 four-star recruits among its 24-member class.
