UNC interim coach Everett Withers on receiving end of pay raise

North Carolina interim coach Everett Withers hasn’t coached a single game for the Tar Heels. He hasn’t even held his first preseason practice. But UNC has already up’d the perks for the former defensive coordinator.

According to a conversation with the Charlotte Observer, UNC assistant athletic director Steve Kirschner said Withers is in line to receive a pay raise of an unspecified amount of money. Public records show Withers made $360,000 for the 2010-11 school year.

Additionally, Withers, as one would expect, will also take over the television and radio shows previously occupied by fired head coach Butch Davis. UNC is currently in the middle of a multimedia contract with Learfield Communications worth roughly $7.5 million annually.

The details of Withers’ pay raise and one-year negotiated contract with Learfield are currently still being figured out. But even if Withers is only the Tar Heels’ head coach through one season, he’ll be getting all the appropriate monetary adjustments.
