Ex-Wyoming QB transfers to Vandy

Eight months after Austyn Carta-Samuels decided to transfer from Wyoming, and two months after rumors first surfaced that he was headed to Vanderbilt, the quarterback is finally headed to the SEC school.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, Carta-Samuels is on the Vandy campus and, "[o]nce the paperwork goes through with the SEC and NCAA” head coach James Franklin said, will become an official member of the Commodores. That’s expected to happen at some point this upcoming week.

“When you have an opportunity to get a player at any position … that’s had experience that’s played before, you want to do that, obviously,” Franklin said.

NCAA transfer rules will require Carta-Samuels to sit out the 2011 season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining in 2011.

In 2009, Carta-Samuels was the Mountain West’s Freshman of the Year in 2009, and started 11 games for the Cowboys last season. When he announced in January he was transferring, he gave no reason -- other than personal reasons -- for the decision.
