USC guard done for the year with fractured foot

Just a day after it was announced that defensive lineman Armond Armstead would redshirt the 2011 season, USC is getting some more season-ending news from the opposite side of the trenches.

Multiple media outlets report today that left guard Abe Markowitz will miss the rest of the year with a stress fracture in his left foot. Markowitz will have surgery on the injury next week.

I’m very disappointed in that,” coach Lane Kiffin said. “Obviously it’s an area of concern for us. He was somebody that we were excited about, kept hoping to get him back every week. He’ll have a long rehab to go to get back.”

Markowitz, a former walk-on, has been oft-injured over the past year. Freshman Marcus Martin is expected to take Markowitz’s spot going forward.
