Sooners stay atop coaches poll once again; Tide pulls ahead of LSU

It appears that as long as Oklahoma keeps on winning, the Sooners will be atop the USA Today coaches poll.

OU has yet to fall from its No. 1 ranking, and after a 62-6 blowout over Ball State, the Sooners grabbed 27 of 59 first-place votes. Alabama moved to the No. 2 spot definitively and received over LSU after defeating the- No. 12 Florida in the Swamp 38-10; Alabama (21 first-place votes) and LSU (10 first-place votes) were previously tied at No. 2 last week.

Stanford (No. 4) and Wisconsin (No. 5) rounded out the coaches top-5 after wins over UCLA and Nebraska, respectively, and Boise State slipped to No. 6 after defeating Nevada 30-10. Oklahoma State is listed as the seventh-best team in the country during their bye week and Clemson, who came off a convincing 23-3 victory over Virginia Tech, launched into the top-10 at No. 8. Oregon and Texas round out the top-10.

A 58-0 rout of Minnesota makes Michigan this week’s rock star as the Wolverines shoot up to eight spots to No. 11. The biggest loser this week was No. 25 Texas A&M, who plummeted from its No. 13 ranking last week after a 42-38 collapse against Arkansas. No. 15 Nebraska (previously No. 8 ) and No. 17 Virginia Tech (previously No. 10) and No. 18 Florida (previously No. 12) also tumbled after blowout losses.

Entering the top-25 for the first time this season is 5-0 Kansas State, who comes off a 36-35 stunner over previously No. 15 Baylor. South Florida and TCU join the Bears as teams who have fallen out of the top-25.
