At least one SDSU tight end out for four to six weeks

San Diego State will rest up this weekend after a 41-27 win over Air Force in Week 7, but the Aztecs will play their Oct. 29 game against Wyoming without one of their starting tight ends, and may be down another.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that Junior TE D.J. Shields has been dealing with a broken foot and is expected to be out four to six weeks. Another tight end, sophomore Gavin Escobar, suffered a broken hand in that win over Air Force. However, Escobar could return in time for the Aztec’s next game against the Cowboys.

Escobar is the team’s third-leading receiver and one of 25 candidates for the John Mackey Award.

With Shields and Escobar either sidelined or limited, sophomore Bryce Quigley and senior Alston Umuolo are expected to see more playing time.
