Record night for Houston in win over Rice

Houston’s 73-34 victory over intra-city rival Rice wasn’t the only thing the No. 18 Cougars got to celebrate tonight. The win, which puts UH at 8-0, came because of some record performances by quarterback Case Keenum and wide receiver/kick returner Tyron Carrier.

With his 100-yard game-opening kickoff return for a touchdown, Carrier tied the NCAA record career kickoff returns for touchdowns with seven. Carrier now shares that record with former Clemson running back C.J. Spiller.

Just before halftime, Keenum tied former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell for most career touchdown passes with 134; he went on to break that record with a 41-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to receiver Charles Sims. In all, Keenum threw for 534 yards and a whopping nine touchdowns in the win.
