Ronnie Hillman questionable for Boise State game

As Boise State attempts to recover from another soul-crushing end to a perfect season, the Broncos could be the beneficiaries of a huge break this weekend.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman is questionable for the BSU game Saturday due to injury. Hillman suffered a high-ankle sprain in the win over Colorado State this past weekend.

While Hillman, who had fluid drained from the ankle and was in a walking boot yesterday, expects to play against the Broncos, the back did not practice Tuesday and is not expected to on Wednesday either. Head coach Rocky Long said he won’t play if he doesn’t practice Thursday -- and may not play even if he’s medically cleared but isn’t close to 100-percent.

“Running backs are in too much danger to not be 100 percent,” Long said. “They’re the ones that take the biggest beating because they’re getting hit from all angles. I think it’s the most dangerous position in football.”

Speaking of percentages, Hillman said being at half speed is better than what a lot of players at his position bring to the table completely healthy, so he wants to give it a go.

“My 50 or 40 (percent) is better than a lot of other running backs,” he said. “I’m just going to be ready to play. If they feel that my 50 percent isn’t helping the team. I’m sure they’ll take me out.”

Hillman is currently second in the nation in rushing at 142 yards per game. He’s also fourth on the Aztecs with 18 receptions.
