Rutgers starting QB to be a game-time decision

Rutgers’ quarterback situation has been a point of uncertainty throughout the entire season. That won’t change for the Scarlet Knights’ for the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 30 against Iowa State.

Coach Greg Schiano said Sunday that the decision to start freshman Gary Nova (pictured) or incumbent starter Chas Dodd would be a game-time decision

I don’t know yet and it’s not being coy,” Schiano said. “We’re actually splitting reps (in practice). We split reps, split which one starts each period (and) one guy goes over with the 1’s.

“They both deserve to be it. That’s another way of saying no one has taken the job and run with it, right? You can look at it one of two ways.”

Schiano also didn’t rule out playing both quarterbacks in the game, something Rutgers hasn’t done all season -- at least voluntarily. The two QB’s have nearly identical stats. Nova leads the team with over 1,500 yards passing with 11 touchdowns; Dodd has thrown for 1,400 and nine touchdowns.
