Former NC State head coach joining Bowden at Akron

New Akron coach Terry Bowden has made his first big hire of his tenure with the Zips.

Former Florida State defensive coordinator and North Carolina State head coach Chuck Amato will take the DC position under Bowden, the coach confirmed to the Associated Press, among other outlets.

The connections to the Bowden family are deep. Amato spent 21 seasons on Florida State’s coaching staff under Bobby Bowden before moving on to NC State for seven years. He was replaced by current Wolfpack coach Tom O’Brien for the 2007 season.

Bowden has spent the past few seasons at D-II school North Alabama, where he compiled 29 wins. He previously held a 47-17-1 mark during his 90s tenure at Auburn.
