Michigan’s Stonum receives jail sentence for latest legal run-in

Michigan wide receiver Darryl Stonum -- and I say that title liberally given the fact that he missed the entire 2011 season because of a legal problem -- will spend 10 days in jail for violation of his two-year probation stemming from a drunk driving charge he received in May.

A judge in the 15th District Court of Michigan sentenced Stonum to the 10-day jail sentence Friday after Ann Arbor police ticketed Stonum for driving with a revoked license early Thursday morning. Stonum lied to his probation officer as well, saying he was dropped off by a female friend on near the court.

Stonum’s license has been revoked and the receiver will not be allowed to apply for another license until June.

According to the court, Stonum has also not paid any of the nearly $2,000 he owes in court fees, nor has he attended any 12-step meetings in the last two weeks.

Stonum’s status with the Wolverines is still up in the air, according to coach Brady Hoke.
