Just over three months after taking over as Louisville’s offensive coordinator with the news that Mike Sanford had been dismissed from the football coaching staff, quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson reportedly has been given the chance to run the Cardinals’ offense into 2012 and beyond.
C.L. Brown of the Louisville Courier-Journal reports that Watson will officially be named the OC, although a date for the announcement is unknown.
The school has not released any statement confirming or denying the report.
There was some speculation, although nothing pinned down, that head coach Charlie Strong could make an outside hire for the position. Watson finished his first season with the Cardinals after serving as Nebraska’s coordinator for the last four years.
