‘Bout face: Husker assistant reportedly takes LSU job

Over the weekend Nebraska defensive backs coach Corey Raymond was quoted as saying “I’m not going to take that job”, referring to rumors that he was considering taking the same position at his alma mater LSU.

Raymond even talked of his 14-year-old son’s feelings about liking Lincoln as a reason to remain with the Cornhuskers. A couple of days later? Yeah, not so much.

According to Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline.com, “Raymond to LSU is a done deal.” The Lincoln Journal Star subsequently confirmed the initial report.

If the reports come to official fruition, Raymond would replace Ron Cooper, who left the Tigers earlier this month for a job on Greg Schiano‘s coaching staff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Neither Nebraska nor LSU has confirmed the move.

The 2011 season was Raymond’s first withe Cornhuskers. Prior to that, he was at Utah State for two seasons.

From 1988-91, Raymond was a cornerback at LSU. He also served as an intern/assistant at the school from 2006-08.
