Jesse Scroggins will transfer from USC

Just under 90 days from the start of the college football season, USC finally has their roster in line with the scholarship reductions imposed by the NCAA.

The school announced today that reserve quarterback Jesse Scroggins will transfer, a move that had been making its way through the rumor mill for a while now. The statement did not say to where Scroggins will transfer. However, coach Lane Kiffin did say the quarterback was academically eligible and had “a strong spring semester in the classroom.”

“We wish Jesse and his family nothing but great success.” Kiffin added.

Scroggins was reportedly battling academic issues this spring and missed six games in 2011 with a thumb injury he suffered in practice. He only took one snap against Washington last season, but did not record a pass. Scroggins redshirted in 2010.

With Scroggins gone, the Trojans have three scholarship quarterbacks on roster: Matt Barkley, Cody Kessler and Max Wittek. The latter two are expected to compete for the No. 2 spot this fall. Additionally, USC landed the talents of top 2013 quarterback Max Browne, though it is only a verbal, non-binding commitment at this point.
