New Nevada WR tears ACL, out for 2012

Welp, this is exactly what Nevada needed in the month leading up to preseason camp.

In an interview with the Reno Gazette Journal, incoming wide receiver Nigel Westbrooks said he has torn his ACL and will miss the entire 2012 season recovering. To make matters worse, Westbrooks said he sustained the injury during non-contact seven-on-seven drills during summer workouts.

Few injuries sring as much as those that occur when the pads are off.

Westbrooks comes to Nevada from Palomar Community College where he caught 52 passes for 729 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. He was expected to immediately aid a wide receiver group that currently has only three healthy scholarship players. Only one of those players, Brandon Wimberly, has any significant playing time under his belt.

Obviously, this is a tough blow to a player who had a lot of potential.
