Updated: Will Muschamp announces Gators losing a player, gaining one back

Day 2 of SEC media days began this morning. First up was Florida coach Will Muschamp.

Among the more notable comments was an update on two players whose futures were a bit uncertain. Muschamp said that defensive lineman Ronald Powell has been cleared for straight ahead running and will play at some point this year, although exactly when is unknown.

Powell tore his ACL during the spring and was given a 4-6 month recovery timeline. Powell played in 12 games last season, recording 32 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble.

Now, on the losing side: Muschamp said tight end A.C. Leonard will transfer. Leonard, as you may recall, had been facing a domestic battery charge for allegedly dragging his girlfriend by her hair out the door of his apartment. He was immediately suspended by Muschamp before being partially reinstated later. However, he was expected to face some sort of suspension this season.

Turns out he won’t get a chance to return.

Updated 11:55 a.m.: Muschamp also added that cornerback Jeremy Brown was scheduled to undergo wrist surgery for an injury he sustained during offseason workouts.

Brown missed all of last season with a knee injury.
