Matt Patchan ruled out of Gators’ opener

An October ACL tear ended Matt Patchan‘s 2009 season and cost him the 2010 season as well. A back injury sidelined the starting offensive lineman for Florida’s bowl win over Ohio State at the end of last season.

Unfortunately, Patchan’s been bitten by the injury bug yet again.

Patchan, head coach Will Muschamp confirmed Friday, has already been ruled out of the season opener vs. (chuckle) Bowling Green with what is being described as a strained pectoral muscle. Muschamp said Patchan suffered the injury the day after last Saturday’s scrimmage, and it did not respond as expected early on in the week.

“We tried to work him back in Monday and it was sore,” Muschamp said. “We needed to take off some contact, but that’s where we are.”

Patchan, expected to start at right tackle this season, played in 12 games at the position last year, starting the last seven games of the regular season
