Four Broncos suspended for game against Michigan State

Boise State’s season opening trip to Michigan State is set to kick off here in just under a couple of hours, and the Broncos will be slightly short-handed.

BSU announced that four players have been suspended for tonight’s game: long snapper Chris Roberson, quarterback Jimmy Laughrea, wide receiver Dallas Burroughs and running back Jay Ajayi.

Of the four, only Roberson was a starter, and Ajayi was already facing a suspension for an off-the-field theft issue from last December. Though losing a long snapper may not seem like a big deal, the Broncos have struggled in the kicking game during some crucial moments the past couple of years. Ohio Wesleyan transfer Kevin Keane will snap for Boise tonight.

You’ll only hear his name called if there’s a problem, but overall this shouldn’t be too much of a setback.

Boise State has its work cut out for it, though. The Broncos are undefeated in season openers under Chris Petersen and opponents in Week 1 have been quality the past three years; Oregon, Virginia Tech and Georgia all went to January bowl games the same year they lost to Boise in the first week.

That season opener win streak has end sometime, though, right?
