UConn’s leading rusher arrested on misdemeanor charge

Continuing the theme of the morning, multiple media outlets are reporting that UConn running back Lyle McCombs was arrested Friday following a early-morning incident. That incident led to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree breach of peace.

The Hartford Courant, citing a police report, notes that the charge stemmed from an apparent domestic issue involving the player’s girlfriend.

... police responded to LaFlesche after an alarmed resident called and said that a male and female were involved in a domestic dispute. According to the report, during an investigation, it was learned that McCombs was yelling and had spit on and pushed his girlfriend while outside of a residential hall.

Despite the arrest, UConn officials have stated that McCombs is in uniform and will play in today’s game against No. 22 Rutgers. He’s not, though, expected to start.

Any future punitive measures have yet to be determined.

For now, though, McCombs’ availability for the critical road contest is huge. The sophomore is far and away the Huskies’ leading rusher, accounting for a total of 452 of the team’s 560 yards rushing. He’s also scored four of UConn’s seven rushing touchdowns.

He’s also tied for second in receptions with 12.
