Gionni Paul no longer a part of the ‘Canes

A player who started the vast majority of the final two-thirds of Miami’s season apparently won’t continue that momentum in 2013, at least not with the Hurricanes.

A school spokesperson confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that linebacker Gionni Paul is no longer a part of the football program. Whether Paul was given the boot or left of his own volition is unknown as the school declined to give the nature of the departure.

The sophomore confirmed via a Facebook post that he was "[n]ot playing for the univ of miami next year,” although he too declined to address any specifics.

After not playing at all the first two games of the season, Paul went on to start seven of the last eight; the only game he didn’t start during that stretch was against Florida State, which he missed due to a suspension.

Paul was a three-star member of Miami’s 2011 recruiting class. Rivals.com had him rated as the No. 22 outside linebacker in the nation.
