Georgia running back Ken Malcome thought briefly about transferring from the program in 2011, but changed his mind a day later. Now, though, it’s permanent. In a release, the redshirt sophomore announced he will leave the Bulldogs in pursuit of more playing time.
Where Malcome will end up isn’t clear yet. Unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA or transfers down a level, he will be required to sit out a season.
“I have made this decision because I think I can get more playing time some place else,” Malcome said. “I have enjoyed my time at Georgia and appreciate the opportunity that Coach (Mark) Richt and the other coaches have given me here. I look forward to my next challenge.”
Malcome has been buried in Georgia’s running back depth chart the past two seasons. With the emergence of “Gurshall” -- the freshman duo of Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall -- Malcome was unlikely to see a significant amount of playing time.
“We are very appreciative of Ken’s contributions to our program and will certainly assist him any way we can in finding a school to continue his career,” Richt said in a statement. “We wish him nothing but the best.”
Malcome finished the 2012-13 season as the team’s third-leading rusher and finishes with 446 yards and two touchdowns for this career.
