Stanford brings back familiar face to replace WVU-bound coach

In the post just below this one, we noted that West Virginia had officially hired an assistant away from Stanford. In a quick turnaround, and with a very familiar face, the Cardinal has found a replacement.

An offensive assistant the past two seasons, Morgan Turner will take on the title of a position coach as he was named as David Shaw‘s tight ends coach. This will be Turner’s fourth season in the football program; in 2010, he served as an assistant strength & conditioning coach.

Ron Crook had served as TEs coach/offensive tackles coach prior to taking the offensive line job at West Virginia.

“Morgan Turner has worked extremely hard here and has been invaluable to us with the offense,” said Shaw in a statement. “He worked closely with (offensive coordinator) Mike Bloomgren in the run game the past two years. This is a great opportunity for a bright, young coach who our players know and respect. We’re pleased that Morgan was able to pass up other opportunities to stay here with us at Stanford.”

Turner had left Stanford earlier this month as he was hired by FAU as tight ends/offensive tackles coach. FAU’s new head coach? Ron Turner, who just happens to be Morgan Turner’s father.

Prior to his time at Stanford, he served as quarterbacks coach at Indiana State. He was also a grad assistant at his alma mater Illinois earlier last decade.
