Saban addresses dismissal of four players

Earlier this afternoon, Nick Saban confirmed what’s long been a foregone conclusion: four players arrested in connection to a pair of robberies had been dismissed are no longer associated with the football program.

In response to the “parting of ways” with running back Brent Calloway, linebacker Tyler Hayes, defensive lineman D.J. Pettway and defensive back Eddie Williams, the Tide has sent out a press release with quotes from Saban addressing the decision.

Here are the quotes, in their entirety:

“Based on all the information we’ve received and gone through in trying to determine the future of the four guys that got in trouble, those guys are no longer associated with the football program. Their actions do not reflect the spirit and character that we want our organization to reflect. It’s obviously very disappointing and unacceptable what happened. I’ve been really proud that over the last five years our team has done a very good job of their personal responsibility and how they represent the university, what they have done in the community, the classroom and on the field.

“We are going to continue to do as much as we can in personal development and character development in our program with education to try to help our guys have a chance to be more successful in life. Some people learn by words, some people learn by consequences, some people can’t learn.”
