Sooners’ Tyler Evans reinjures ACL, football future in doubt

In early August of last year, on the first day of summer camp, Oklahoma offensive lineman Tyler Evans went down with a torn ACL in his right knee and missed the entire 2012 season.

Unfortunately, there will be no return for Evans in 2013 -- or perhaps at all, at least collegiately.

At practice Thursday, OU head coach Bob Stoops confirmed that Evans had again torn the ACL in the same knee he injured last year. Suffice to say, surgery will again be needed to repair the damage.

Evans suffered the injury during a non-contact drill at Tuesday’s practice. He was not yet participating in contact drills as he continued the rehab from his previous injury.

Stoops said that this latest injury puts the lineman’s football future in doubt. “Very unfortunate for him,” the coach added.

Prior to being injured last year, Evans had started 25 of the last 27 games at right guard. For his career, he started 29 of the 39 games in which he played.

It’s unknown if Evans will apply for a medical hardship waiver with the NCAA.
