While USF and West Virginia remain the presumptive front-runners for Clint Trickett, they aren’t the only schools in the running for the former Florida State quarterback.
By way of Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Trickett’s father, FSU assistant Rick Trickett, has confirmed that his son may visit both Auburn and Michigan at some point in the near future. The younger Trickett is visiting West Virginia this weekend, and will visit USF shortly thereafter.
While the Wolverines are set with Devin Gardner as the starter, they took a hit recently when backup Russell Bellomy went down with a torn ACL earlier this month. The Tigers, meanwhile, are in the midst of a quarterback battle between Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace, neither of whom have grabbed control of the starting job.
New Tigers co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig was hired away from the Seminoles earlier this year, giving the player a connection to the current staff on The Plains. Craig served as Trickett’s position coach at FSU.
Rick Trickett did allow, though, that the visits already scheduled could be the only two his son takes. Auman writes that "[t]he family hasn’t set a timetable for making a decision, but Rick Trickett said it’s important for his son to get to his new campus as soon as possible to ease the transition to a new program.”
Trickett, who announced earlier in the week that he was leaving the ‘Noles, will graduate from FSU and would be eligible to play immediately at any of the FBS programs under consideration.
