The news coming out of Baton Rouge involving one of LSU’s starting offensive lineman is far from positive and, potentially, downright bleak.
Citing a source close to the program, the New Orleans Times-Picayune‘s Jim Kleinpeter is reporting that starting guard Josh Williford suffered a concussion during Thursday morning’s practice. The paper writes that “Williford... was unconscious for about five minutes after a pileup during a team portion of practice.”
The injury is particularly concerning as the starting left guard missed the last seven games of the 2012 season due to a concussion. Because of the concussion history, the Times-Picayune reports that the injury could be of the career-threatening variety.
The school has not commented on Williford’s status for either the remainder of camp or the upcoming season.
Of the 31 games in which Williford has played with the Tigers, he’s started 19 of those contests. Experience-wise, Williford is the lone senior starter along LSU’s line heading into the new season.
