Hokies’ secondary depth takes another hit as CB transfers

Antone Exum, arguably Virginia Tech’s best returning cornerback, won’t be available for the Hokies’ season-opening game against Alabama -- and perhaps longer -- as he recovers from a serious offseason knee injury

Now, one of Exum’s potential replacements is out as well.

Per Frank Beamer’s official website, sophomore cornerback Donaldven Manning is transferring, although to where has not officially been announced.

Manning saw some playing time last season as a freshman, but had recently been leapfrogged on the depth chart by Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson. There was no reason for Manning’s departure, but it would appear depth chart issues had something to do with it.

More than anything, Manning’s departure further thins the Hokies’ cornerback depth heading into a big season opener.
