Hooker transferring from NC State to ECU

(Writer’s note: the player, not the street professional)

A touted member of Tom O’Brien‘s final recruiting class has decided to leave North Carolina State, but, as it turns out, he won’t even be required to obtain a new driver’s license as part of the move.

Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren confirmed Friday that not only has K’Hadree Hooker decided to transfer, but that he would be moving on to East Carolina -- a team on NCSU’s 2013 schedule, incidentally. Doeren also acknowledged that the defensive tackle’s placement on the depth chart was the impetus behind the decision.

“He was just buried in the depth chart and he felt like he was going to struggle getting on the field,” Doeren said. “He’s a great kid and we love him but he just came in and said he really wants to play.”

While Hooker won’t be eligible to play immediately, he’ll have two seasons of eligibility remaining starting in 2014.

Hooker took a redshirt as a true freshman last season after coming to the Wolfpack as a three-star prospect.
