Clemson’s Carlos Watkins avoids serious injury in car wreck

While the details are relatively scant at the moment, a member of the Clemson football program is reportedly lucky to be alive following an accident Saturday.

Clemson confirmed in a press release late Saturday night that Carlos Watkins (pictured, right) was involved in a vehicle accident near his hometown of Forest City, NC, earlier in the day. The release stated that the sophomore defensive tackle avoided serious injury, although what injuries he did occur were not detailed.

Watkins was held overnight at a local hospital for observation.

I reported that a close friend of Watkins was killed in the accident.

It has yet to be made public who was driving the vehicle that was involved the crash. Bad weather reportedly played a role in the accident.

After playing in nine games last season, Watkins has played in all three games in 2013.
