Rumors were swirling Wednesday morning that one of Florida’s top defensive players, Dominique Easley, had suffered a torn ACL.
During an SEC teleconference late this morning, Will Muschamp stated that Easley tweaked his right knee during practice Tuesday. The “tweak” was of the non-contact variety, which is usually ominous but had the head coach saying "[w]e think he’ll be fine.”
The player, on the other hand, doesn’t sound as optimistic. In a tweet posted to his Twitter account a short time ago, Easley intimated that the injury was significantly more serious than his coach had let on and that his season could very well be over.
“Gatornation thank you for 4 yrs of sticking with me but god has something else planned,” the defensive lineman wrote.
While Easley is a senior, he would be eligible for a medical redshirt as the Gators have played just three games this season. The school has yet to respond to Easley’s seemingly dire tweet.
Even as UF is very deep and talented along the line, the loss of Easley would be significant.
The tackle started 12 games in 2011 -- he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the regular season finale against Florida State -- and 11 last season before starting all three in 2013. He has two tackles for loss this season.
