Connor Shaw out 2-3 weeks with shoulder injury

South Carolina’s three-point win over UCF came at a rather significant cost.

Head coach Steve Spurrier announced after the Gamecocks’ hard-fought 28-25 victory that starting quarterback Connor Shaw will miss 2-3 weeks. Shaw suffered an injury to his right (throwing) shoulder midway through the first quarter and did not return.

The type of injury is a concern for the Gamecocks. Last season, Shaw missed a pair of games after breaking his clavicle, although this time its being labeled a sprain. He also missed spring practice due to a foot injury.

Dylan Thompson replaced Shaw and completed 15-of-32 passes for 261 yards and an interception. The junior will start in place of Shaw until he’s healthy enough to return.

In addition to Shaw, running back Brandon Wilds will miss 2-3 weeks with a dislocated elbow. Wilds entered Saturday’s game second among Gamecock backs with 109 yards rushing.
