Future four-game series between BYU, Stanford announced

If you’re a fan of either Stanford or BYU and are looking to get your tailgate plans for a decade or more down the road lined up, we’ve got you covered.

The two schools announced in tandem press releases that they have scheduled what’s essentially a pair of future home-and-home series.

The Cardinal will host the first two games of the series at Stanford Stadium, and both will come on Thanksgiving weekends: Nov. 28, 2020 and November 26, 2022. Two of the next three years, the Cougars will play the role of hosts LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo: Sept. 2, 2023 and Sept. 13, 2025.

“We are extremely pleased to have Brigham Young University on our future schedules,” said Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir in a statement. “BYU football has a tremendous history of success in football with a large fan base. I think this series will be wonderful for both programs and for all college football fans.”

The two football programs have played each other just twice, with the last meeting coming in 2004. The Cardinal has won both games in the micro-mini-series.

In addition to the Stanford series, BYU also announced a future home-and-home with Hawaii. The Cougars will travel to Honolulu Nov. 25, 2017, while the Rainbow Warriors head east to Provo Nov. 17, 2018.

Those two programs first met in 1930 and have played a total of 29 times, with the most recent meeting coming last season.
