By this time next week, Texas could have its replacement for DeLoss Dodds in place. Maybe
According to Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News, West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, viewed as “No. 1 and 1A on Texas’ list,” has begun the interview process to potentially become the new AD at UT. Despite being the “favorite,” Luck is not the only one who will interview with the eight-person advisory committee guiding the search as Arizona State’s Steve Patterson and Arkansas’ Jeff Long will do the same this week.
Carlton wrote that, "[u]nless something dramatically changes, those are the three finalists.”
A new AD could be tabbed this week, Carlton reports, although, if Luck takes the job as most at the school hope, an announcement likely wouldn’t be made until the following week as Texas travels to, of course, West Virginia Saturday for a Big 12 game.
Dodds officially announced Oct. 1 that he would be retiring from his post when his contract expires Aug. 31 of next year. When a new AD is hired, that individual will take over the men’s athletic department -- UT has separate ADs for men’s and women’s sports -- while Dodds will slide into an advisory role.
