It’s a good thing Will Muschamp received a public vote of confidence from his boss earlier in the week.
Florida has lost myriad starters to season-ending injuries this year, including starting quarterback Jeff Driskel (pictured, left) back in September. Driskel’s replacement, Tyler Murphy (pictured, middle), has been dealing with a lingering shoulder injury, which he aggravated in the embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt last weekend.
That aggravation, both literally and figuratively, has left Murphy as a game-time decision for the South Carolina game Saturday. The way Muschamp is talking, however, it appears that the decision has all but been made and Skyler Mornhinweg (pictured, right) will be under center.
“We feel good about him moving forward and being ready to go,” Muschamp said of Mornhinweg on his Thursday night radio show, by way of the Orlando Sentinel. “That’s the way it’s looking now.”
If Mornhinweg, the son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, gets the nod, it would mark the redshirt freshman’s first career start. Not only that, but Mornhinweg has yet to throw a pass at the collegiate level.
Walk-on Christian Provencha would serve as Mornhinweg’s backup if Murphy, who has not practiced at all this week, is unable to go.
