Reports: Dave Christensen out as Wyoming coach

Multiple media reports on Sunday are saying that Wyoming has fired head coach Dave Christensen.

The termination of the fifth-year head coach comes on the heels of the Cowboys’ 35-7 loss to Utah State on Saturday. It was Wyoming’s fifth loss in sixth games after a 4-2 start. The resulting 5-7 record was Christensen’s third losing season in four years.

“We have come to a point where our football program has not achieved at the level of success that we expect, and we know from past experience that we can be successful,” athletic director Tom Burman said in a statement released by the school. “It is with that in mind that we move forward in search of a new leader for Cowboy Football.”

Christensen made bowl games in two of his first three seasons, but finished his career 27-34 at Wyoming, including a 16-22 record in the Mountain West Conference.
