Plan accordingly, Clemson to host Wyoming in 2021

Because schedules tend to be filled years in advance for a number of reasons, Clemson and Wyoming have agreed to set aside a weekend in 2021 to play some college football. It will be the first meeting between the two programs, unless they happen to be paired up in a bowl game between now and then. The game is the first non-conference match-up scheduled by either school so far in advance.

Wyoming already has future games scheduled at Texas Tech for 2020 and 2021, so it is not likely they would want to have added another road game against a program from a power conference. There would also be little chance of Clemson agreeing to travel to Wyoming for a game, certainly under a one-game arrangement.

Who knows what either program will look like seven years from now, because so much can change in a rather short period of time. Wyoming will be starting a new era this upcoming season with Craig Bohl taking over as head coach after leading FCS North Dakota State to dominance in recent years. The hopes are he can build Wyoming in to a similar sort of power, at least within the Mountain west Conference. He may be joining the program at a good time too with programs like Fresno State and Boise State expected to take a step back in 2014 due to a coaching change or roster turnover at key positions.

Clemson will hope to continue along the same path in the ACC as one of the top programs and anticipate Wyoming being considered a respectable opponent. By then the College Football Playoff model will have been put to test and tweaks may have been made. Strength of schedule is expected to be a factor taken in to consideration by the selection committee, so quality opponents are important for any playoff hopeful.
