Jeff Brohm takes over for Petrino at WKU

As it turns out, Western Kentucky wasn’t sans a head coach for long.

Following up on reports that surfaced Friday morning, WKU announced that offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm has been named as the Hilltoppers’ new head coach. Brohm will be officially introduced at a 4:30 p.m. ET press conference this afternoon.

Brohm will replace Bobby Petrino, who you may have heard left WKU for a return to Louisville Thursday morning.

Brohm, a former Louisville Cardinal quarterback who was born and raised in the state of Kentucky, just completed his first season with the Hilltoppers as coordinator. WKU will be his first head-coaching job.

In addition to one year at WKU, Brohm spent time on coaching staffs at UAB (2012), Illinois (2010-11), FAU (2009) and Louisville (2002-08). Interestingly, Brohm’s second game as a head coach will come against one of his former schools as the Hilltoppers travel to Champaign Sept. 6 to take on the Illini.

With Brohm’s hiring, there are two FBS head-coaching jobs open: Penn State and UAB. The former is expected to announce Saturday the hiring of James Franklin, which would open up the Vanderbilt job, while the latter lost its head coach after Garrick McGee decided to join Petrino at the UofL as offensive coordinator.
