Stanford takes in-house route for new DC

After Derek Mason left to become the head coach at Vanderbilt, it was thought that Stanford could very well stay in-house for a new defensive coordinator.

Friday afternoon, that tack came to fruition.

The Cardinal announced in a press release that Lance Anderson has been promoted to defensive coordinator. Anderson spent the 2013 season as outside linebackers coach, a position he will continue to coach to go along with his coordinating responsibilities.

“Lance has worked under two of the best defensive minds in football in Vic Fangio and Derek Mason,” head coach David Shaw said in a statement. “He will continue our defensive tradition of being aggressive, being physical and setting the tone for how we play football here at Stanford University.”

Anderson has spent the last seven seasons as a Cardinal assistant, including the last four as outside linebackers coach.
