As it looks to finalize its 2014 recruiting class, Oregon State must also begin a search for to replace a key piece to its offensive coaching staff.
The New York Giants announced Monday afternoon that it has hired Danny Langsdorf as its new quarterbacks coach. Langsdorf first met with the NFL club last week, with the Giants offering the longtime OSU assistant the job on Friday.
Langsdorf said that while it was tough to part ways with head coach Mike Riley, it was also too good of an opportunity for him professionally to pass on.
“He was nothing but supportive like he’s always been,” Langsdorf said of the Beavers head coach. “We’ve spent a lot of good times together, a lot of good memories and a lot of experiences with each other. That part of it I’m going to miss dearly. But I think this opportunity was hard to pass up. ...
“These relationships are tough to leave. They’re great friends and great coaches. Everybody that I’ve worked with here, I think they all understand and are supportive, yet we’re all going to miss each other. We’ve had a lot of good times.”
Langsdorf had spent the past 10 seasons in Corvallis. In 2013, the Beavers set a school record in total offense while quarterback Sean Mannion set a Pac-12 record for passing yards in a single season.
However, those record-setting numbers came two years after Riley had taken over the play-calling duties from Langsdorf. Riley did give those duties back to his coordinator late in the 2013 season.
