Rutgers is close to hiring ex-Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen as its offensive coordinator, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reported on Tuesday.
According to the story, Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood should soon reach an agreement with Friedgen, who last coached the Terrapins in 2010. He would replace Ron Prince, who left to become an assistant for the Detroit Lions after one season with the Scarlet Knights.
Friedgen, 66, did a commendable job at Maryland in his 10 seasons, going 75-50 with seven bowl victories. He is known for being an offensive innovator and getting the most out of his talent, so he’ll be a great fit for Rutgers as they move to the Big Ten.
