Ball State head coach Pete Lembo has hired Georgetown’s Kevin Kelly to be his defensive coordinator, the school announced recently.
Kelly spent the last seven seasons as the Hoyas’ head coach, guiding the program to a 24-63 record. He’ll replace Jay Bateman, who was hired by Army.
“Been here eight years, going on nine, and it’s just the time where I feel that Georgetown football needs a new energy, new ideas,” said Kelly. “For me personally, this opportunity is something that will help me with my career and my goals moving forward, but Georgetown is an incredible place. It’s very special.”
Kelly has also had assistant coaching stops at Syracuse, Navy, Marshall and Tulane. He’ll try to improve a unit that finished 78th nationally last year in total defense.
