Report: Miami discussing future game with Alabama or LSU

No we’re getting somewhere, schedule-wise.

While the talks are said to be very preliminary, the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson writes that Miami “has been approached about opening the football season against Alabama in 2017 in Atlanta or LSU in 2018 in Arlington, Tex.” Jackson stresses that the Hurricanes would play just one of those games, not both.

The potential game against the Tide would be in 2017 and would serve as the first-ever college football game at the new stadium in Atlanta, which is set to open that season. The one against the Tigers would take place in 2018, likely at the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

The Hurricanes have games scheduled against Arkansas State and Toledo in 2017, and Rutgers and Toledo the following year. The Tide has a (likely) date with Colorado State the same year of the proposed game with The U, while the Tigers have a Power Five game with Syracuse in 2018.

The last UA-UM meeting came way back in 1993 in the Sugar Bowl and served as the first national championship game of the Bowl Coalition, the predecessor to the now-defunct BCS. Both teams came into that game undefeated; only Alabama left unscathed as the Tide earned its first post-Bear Bryant title and, in the process, put a halt to the Hurricanes’ 29-game winning streak.

The Canes and Tigers, meanwhile, last squared off in 2005 (Peach Bowl).
