Jimbo Fisher has high praise for Alabama’s new QB option

Alabama has had two starting quarterbacks for the past five seasons. Quarterback questions are rarely something that come up when discussing Alabama since Nick Saban was named the head coach. That is not quite the case this season with the departure of AJ McCarron, but Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher says the Crimson Tide could have one of the best quarterbacks to suit up for the SEC power in some time.

In an interview with TideSports.com, Fisher had nothing but compliments to share about Jacob Coker, the quarterback who transferred from Florida State to Alabama this offseason.Fisher said Coker could have the most talent any quarterback Alabama has seen in years.

“Including what they’ve had, he’s much more talented than anything they’ve had,” he told TideSports.com. “I don’t mean to discredit the previous guys, they were all great. But this guy is extremely talented. Arm and mind. He’s a backup because he’s behind the best quarterback in America. (Coker) may have been one of the top three or four quarterbacks in America physically.”

Coker was released from his scholarship by Florida State in January. Just days later Alabama confirmed Coker had signed with the Crimson Tide. Coker certainly seems to be leaving Fisher on good terms, considering the high praise the coach of the Seminoles had to share.

“First of all, he’s a very good person,” Fisher said. “He’s a team guy, he’s a tremendous human being, you want him to be your son. He works hard, does his due diligence, you can’t work him enough. He’s ‘yes sir, no sir,’ everything for the team. And then he’s gifted with a tremendous arm, he’s a very intelligent guy and learns well.”

As a graduate student, Coker will be available to compete for the starting job under center at Alabama for this upcoming season.
