Touted Sooner frosh arrested for being drunk in public

Expected to make headlines for his immediate impact on the field, a touted member of Oklahoma’s most recent recruiting class is instead making negative news off of it.

According to multiple media outlets, defensive back Steven Parker was arrested last weekend and charged with public intoxication. Parker’s arrest came at the hands of Norman police at around 1:30 a.m. local time Sunday.

The Oklahoman stated that, according to the arrest report, Parker was found by police laying near what was described as a “pool of vomit.” From the paper:

When the officer approached, Parker woke up but immediately upon standing fell over backwards, the report said. Parker admitted to drinking vodka, was sweating and his speech was slurred.

Shortly after he was released from jail, Parker apologized via Twitter for the incident.

As far as any type of punishment from the team, the Norman Transcript writes that “OU coach Bob Stoops has typically dealt with incidents like Parker’s internally.”

The school is aware of Parker’s situation.

A four-star member of the Sooners’ 2014 class, Parker was rated as the No. 6 safety in the country and the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Oklahoma. Last week, Stoops was quoted as stating that Parker will “be fighting for a starting job” when summer camp opens in early August.
