Report: TCU officially separated from Devonte Fields

TCU and Devonte Fields had already been going their separate ways, but TCU made that a little bit more clear on Thursday. According to a report by Joe Schad of ESPN.com, TCU confirmed a separation between the school and defensive lineman.

Last week it looked as though Fields was on his way to Stephen F. Austin to play for the FCS school this fall, but that was quickly dismissed as a possibility by TCU. As reported by Stephen F. Austin at the time, TCU had a committee rule against Fields’ eligibility to apply for a one-time transfer waiver to join the FCS program. That restricted his options for the fall, including sitting out and moving to another school in 2015 to begin playing next fall or begin training for the 2015 NFL Draft.

Simply put, there does not appear to be anything new as far as the options for Fields in 2015. His days at TCU are over, that much appears to be clear. Where he goes from here will be anyone’s guess at this stage, but the possibility of seeing him on the playing field anywhere but a junior college appear slim.
