Dan Mullen ‘completely disagrees’ with stomper’s suspension

Anyone who saw Mississippi State’s Dillon Day stepping on the midsection -- or lower -- of two LSU players could see that the offensive lineman, at best, did nothing to avoid the stompings or, at worst, did it intentionally Anyone, that is, except those connected to the MSU football program.

Tuesday, the SEC (rightly) announced that Day will be suspended for one game for what the conference described as “multiple flagrant and unsportsmanlike acts” in the win over the Tigers in Death Valley. That means the starting lineman, because the Bulldogs are on a bye this weekend, will miss the Oct. 4 game against Texas A&M.

Don’t count Dan Mullen among the fans of the suspension, though, with the head coach saying that he “didn’t see anything wrong with” with Day’s actions in the game.

“We completely disagree with the ruling that was given to us by the league, but we are going to follow the commissioner’s decision,” Mullen said, as if he or the football program had any other recourse.

Mullen’s support of Day, who has started 38 games the past three-plus years, comes a year after the coach was forced to sit the lineman for a half after stomping an Auburn player.

We’re just curious what Mullen’s reaction would be if it were his players who were on the receiving end of blatant and intentional stompings, which these were. Here’s to guessing he’d be up in arms -- as he should be right now at his own player.
