Louisville may not have starting QB for Wake game

A death in the family kept Louisville’s backup quarterback away from last Saturday’s game. Now, an injury could keep the starter out of the game this Saturday.

During Louisville’s win over FIU, Will Gardner suffered what appeared to be an injury to his left knee. He left the game in the third quarter and didn’t return.

According to the Louisville Courier Journal, Gardner “has had his knee evaluated three more times since the game.” For his part, head coach Bobby Petrino said earlier in the week that he’s not prepared to say if Gardner will or won’t be a go for the upcoming game against Wake Forest.

“We will monitor his symptoms and progression from treatments on a daily basis and see how he responds throughout the week,” the school said in a statement.

Gardner is currently 57th in the country in passing efficiency and fourth among ACC quarterbacks.

If Gardner is unable to go against the Demon Deacons, Reggie Bonnafon would likely get the call. Bonnafon was unavailable for the FIU game after his father unexpectedly passed away earlier in the week.
