Chip Kelly ‘wouldn’t listen’ even if Florida contacted him

Just a couple of days ago, a rumor surfaced that the Florida Gators would make a run at Chip Kelly to fill their coaching vacancy.

As the speculation went, UF would reach out to the former Oregon and current Philadelphia Eagles head coach to gauge his interest in a return to the college game. Calling said speculation “silly,” Kelly said Wednesday that he has not been contacted by UF regarding their vacancy.

“And if they did, I wouldn’t listen. It’s false. I think false things are silly,” Kelly said.

Kelly has an 18-month show-cause that resulted from the NCAA’s investigation into his former Ducks football program. That show-cause expires Christmas this year.

With Kelly out of the mix (keep your guffawing to a minimum), all Gator eyes are now on Fort Collins. UF officials flew to Colorado State Tuesday and are currently in the midst of negotiations with CSU head coach Jim McElwain, talks that are widely expected to result in McElwain being named the Gators’ head coach as early as Wednesday.
