No one could cover Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper this season. Cooper led college football with 115 receptions and 1,656 receiving yards. Both shattered Alabama’s previous records.
After his record-breaking season, Cooper was honored with the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s most outstanding receiver.
Two receivers were hot on Cooper’s tail throughout the season.
West Virginia’s Kevin White was nation’s leading receiver for half of the season before Cooper blew past him. Meanwhile, Colorado State’s Rashard Higgins only finished 16 yards behind Cooper while catching 25 fewer passes. These two outstanding receivers were the other finalists for the award.
Cooper became only the second wide receiver from the SEC to win the award. LSU’s Josh Reed was the first in 2001.
Now, the Alabama wide receiver has one more award in his sights...the Heisman Trophy. Oregon’s Marcus Mariota is the favorite to claim college football’s most prestigious award, but Cooper would be a deserving winner as well.
