This past January, after he decided to return to UCLA for another season, Brett Hundley confirmed that this would be his last season with the Bruins. Nearly a year later, that’s still the case.
Thursday, Hundley’s head coach, Jim Mora, confirmed that the star quarterback will forego his remaining eligibility and make himself available for the 2015 NFL draft. Hundley was viewed as a potential Top-Five pick in the last draft; where he will be projected after a season that was statistically on-par with what he did a year ago, but with the team falling short of expectations, remains to be seen.
“This will be his last game as a UCLA Bruin,” Mora said. “I don’t know that he’s announced it yet, but we all know that’s the case. I’d like him to go out with a successful game.”
The last game to which Mora referred is the Jan. 2 Alamo Bowl matchup with Kansas State.
This season, the 6-3, 227-pound Hundley accounted 3,567 yards of offense and 29 touchdowns in 12 games. In 13 games last season, those numbers were 3,819 and 35. All of those numbers fall short of his freshman season, though, as in 2012 Hundley totaled 4,100 yards and 38 touchdowns.
What NFL scouts will like about Hundley is that his interceptions went down every year (11 to 9 to 5) while his completion percentage rose every season (66.6 to 67.2 to 70.4). Other areas, though, such as consistency -- or lack thereof -- may not stand up well to scrutiny.
